I am so sorry that you had a bad experience before! Color can not lift artificial color. And it can only lift your natural virgin color so much before lightener is required to lift further.
Often, bleach (lightener) causes damage to hair because it is improperly used. It could have been left on to long, overlapped on hair that was previously lightened, placed under heat or multiple applications done to close together. There are many ways to protect the integrity of your hair. If your hair is very dark, it will be a process if you want to be very blonde. I often recommend taking it blonder each visit and using Olaplex in between visits to build the integrity back up.
Yes, you can! To shift the tone, deepen the color, or make your natural color more vibrant or glossy, you can use demi-permanent or temporary hair color. These options won't lift your natural color, so they won't affect the natural pigment in your hair. Alternatively, you can use extensions to add highlights, create an ombre effect, or add fashion colors without damaging your natural hair.
Hair color will always fade a little, but there are ways to prevent excessive fading and keep it looking fresh between salon visits. Factors like how often you wash and heat style your hair, and exposure to chlorine, salt, and UV rays can cause fading. Using hair care products that are low in harsh detergents and waxes and contain high-quality ingredients will improve color longevity. Try to go longer between washing and heat styling your hair. Use the lowest heat setting on your flat iron. When swimming, avoid getting your hair wet if possible by braiding it or putting it in a high ponytail. Use products with UV protection or wear a hat or scarf when in the sun for extended periods.
